The Richie Trust Charities
Helping the good causes Richie supported, funds raised by Richie's Trust go to the charities close to his heart.  Some of these are illustrated below...

Sense is the leading national charity that supports and campaigns for those who are deafblind. Many children who are multi-sensory impaired do not use language. All, however, communicate, although understanding their communication may require trust, patience and skill www.sense.org.uk

The Stroke Association works for a world where there are fewer strokes and all those touched by stroke get the help they need.
The Jessie May Trust is a Bristol-based charity that provides a hospice at home service of nursing care and respite for children with a terminal illness.  www.jessiemaytrust.org.uk

We've sponsored an art theraphy and a music therapy session at The Rainbow Centre for Children in Bristol.  The Centre provides a haven for bereaved children or those with cancer and life-threatening illnesses.

Puppy's were Richie's very favourite thing so we've sponsored a little pup called Richie via Guide Dogs for The Blind.

At just six weeks old, this tiny bundle of fur is just like any other puppy: playful, mischievous and full of life.  In around 20 months time, the pup will become one of the most responsible dogs in the country when it becomes a fully qualified working guide dog – a life-changing addition to somebody’s life.

£500 has been awarded to Brainwave, a fantasic charity based in Somerset. Brainwave really makes a difference providing therapy for children from 8 months to 12 years, who have suffered a brain injury (through birth, trauma or accident). The programmes are a combination of physical and cognitive exercise that parents/carers learn at the centre and then carry out at home on a daily basis. www.brainwave.org.uk
The Richie Trust has given £1000 to Make a Wish, a lovely charity that grants wishes to children living with life threatening illness.  Darin from Bristol, aged 8, recently had his wish to be a postman for the day granted by Make-A-Wish.  He had a fantastic time delivering very special letters all over the City, including one to the Giant Tortoise at Bristol Zoo.

Charlton Farm Children's Hospice
(Wraxall, Bristol)

So far we've raised well over £2000 for the Children's Hospice!  Lindsay and Kat presented George (pictured) and Alexa at CHSW with a cheque and some of the money raised will be used to fund bereavement weekends.  This is where the Hospice invites the families whose child has died in the previous year to come back for a weekend.  Special activities are laid on including a remembrance service and also crafts to help the brothers and sisters make things for their “memory boxes”.  There are hugs, laughter and chocolate a plenty.  It's also a way for parents to meet and form new friendships and support from others going through the same experience.

Also, during June 08, The Richie Trust donated a further £500 to create a butterfly garden in the sanctury area of the Hospice.  If you click on the events page, you'll see the Richie Trust volunteers hard at work!

Alexa Garner, Trust & Grants and Community Fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West

“The Richie Trust has shown a huge commitment to Children’s Hospice South West, transforming areas of Charlton Farm for the families who use our hospice. Children’s Hospice South West provides the only hospice support for children with life limiting conditions and their families in the region.

Little Bridge House Children's Hospice
(Fremington, Barnstaple)
Sandy and the team at Little Bridge House were in need of some new DVDs, books and games.  Many of the children are bedbound or spend quite a bit of time in bed, so being able to watch films or listen to music is a welcome distraction.  We parcelled up a load of goodies including Harry Potter and Enchanted (for the older children) as well as Charlie & Lola and In The Night Garden for the little ones.

Sandy Buckle, Head Of Care wrote to The Richie Trust saying “Thank you for the lovely parcel you sent for the children. They will love the DVD’s and other goodies I know. Thank you so much for supporting our charity – we wouldn’t manage without you!!”

Children using the Hospices have Life Threatening Conditions, which mean that they are not expected to live into adulthood. Some families may use the hospice for many years, others for planned respite, or emergency care.  As well as providing a beautiful, peaceful and happy environment for the children, the Hospices also provide support and care for their families.

Lympstone Primary School
Richie loved reading and was very passionate about getting kids to love books.  Therefore, we decided to donate £100 in materials, heaps of books as well as our time to create a 'Reading Corner' at Lympstone School in his memory.  Click on the Events page to see the photos.
